I know you're getting a little tired of bugs, but I promise you will love this one! I am so proud of this one: she's (female) absolutely gorgeous. She is so pretty she reminds me of a jewel! She's an Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly. In this particular species of Dragonfly, the female has the green abdomen and the male has a blue abdomen. Figuring out what these little critters are has been very tricky, even with the internet and the three books I bought, identification has been dicey. Now that I've been reading up on them, I think they may have layed some eggs in some large unused garden pots that have filled with rain water. I will most certainly keep you posted as to the status of those itty-bitty creatures swimming around in the pots on my patio.
Hugs, Julie
I took a lot of photos of this little beauty. This one is my favorite because she actually turned her head and is looking straight at me. I've had the same experience with Praying Mantids. If I talk to them (usually gently), they will turn their heads and look straight at you even if they are going in a different direction and are preoccupied with something else. It's makes me think that they have an intellectual awareness that I am there as opposed to one of fear. I didn't try talking to the Dragonfly because I was afraid she would fly away. However, talking to a Praying Mantid is no problem. Try it and you will be amazed!
