Having lived with violence as a child, this proved to be an excellent avenue to voice my inner sadness through an art piece entitled, "Broken". As you can see, I chose to focus on the wide-eyed, innocent child with a broken mirror - a symbol of a broken spirit, broken trust, broken body. While I felt there was so, so much more to say I also wanted to create it with as little as possible for the biggest impact. Aunt Bobby revealed many hurtful, destructive emotions with her words, "anger suddenly turned/to horror and sorrow and pain/and pity and fear". The biggest loss is of course the child; if only his father had displayed pity beforehand, a different scenario may have played out.
This work accompanies Aunt Bobby's poem, "Accident" from Collaboration Station #4. To read it, go to http://artellacafe.com/forums/p/3263/10681.aspx#10681.
