My father-in-law, early 1944

No EXIF data is available

He trained at Camp Pendleton, and was a Navy Corpsman (I would have said a medic) serving in Iwo Jima beginning February 19, 1945, and on to Okinawa, mounting the beach April 1, 1945, although his unit of 38 arrived two days prior.  Of the 38, my father-in-law and one other man returned alive.  Like many others, he asks us not to forget that the real heroes are those who gave all.

My, what a handsome young man...and very, very lucky by the sounds of it!  I bet not a day goes by that he doesn't think of his comrades and is grateful that he survived. Many thanks to your father-in-law for his sacrifices and I'm glad you shared this with us, Constance.
