Creative storage - Repurposing household items

I love to find different uses for ordinary household items. I use vintage kitchen canisters to store art supplies. I use old wire and wooden magazine racks to store file folders with current projects and three-ring binders that don't fit my bookshelves.

My latest repurpose project is making a cookie sheet and tin cans into a hanging storage unit. First I hung a cookie sheet above my work table by drilling two small holes in each corner then attaching wire to hang on heavy-duty picture hooks. I painted and decorated an assortment of tin cans, then glued heavy-duty magnets on them. The cans stick onto the cookie sheet hanging above my work table and hold an assortment of art supplies that I need for whatever current project I'm working on and frees up my table space so I can spread out my creativity.

Anyone else have creative ideas for storage?

     Dear Cheryl,

Perhaps Moscow is in NW Ohio? If so, I'm in SW Michigan and you're invited to come be my DECLUTTERING COACH! I'm just thankful for the huge array of plastic bins and drawers. I printed out Marney's DeCluttering for Creatives (again!) and am trying to re-arrange my mind! Meanwhile the piles of art supplies and projects threatens to bring me to a complete halt. It's an on-going challenge in my life.

Hi Pat ~ LOL! No, I'm not even close to northern Ohio. Moscow is about as far south in Ohio as you can get and about 35 miles east of Cincinnati. I live on a hill that sits above the riverbank of the Ohio River .

Thank you, I'm flattered! I've never considered myself a Decluttering Coach but it may be something to look into. Geeked I have Marney's DeCluttering for Creatives too and I love it.

I know what you mean by the on-going challenge.  I don't know how it happens, but piles of paperwork appear in my studio and then they grow! There must be some kind of "paper-pile seed" that ferments and roots itself in various corners of my space and I haven't been able to stop it. I think the bookracks would work with manila folders (in brilliant colors of course) holding various categories of ephemera. That might help some of the piles!

I think one of the keys to organizing creative space is to make your space a creative project in and of itself. As much as we put our own personalities into our art we should do the same for the space where we create our art.

    Happy creating!

    Cheryl
