I have the summer off from school and will be working only Friday, Sat and Sun... I am about to embark on an altering extravaganza! My first work will be a pair of shoes that I purchased from the Salvation Army...I also have a suitcase... and several wooden boxes... nothing too bizarre yet!

I have finished unpacking my supplies and converting my study nook back into my art space. I had totally forgotten about a project I started in November. I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how to ...and you can follow it's progress.

I had *** reduction surgery on October and decided to alter my old HUGE bra. IT will be red and will express my new found freedom!

     Susan,

This is a great project!  Have you seen Artella 10 yet?  Pattie Mosca has a beautiful altered bra in it that you might use for some inspiration.  What a great artistic symbol of your triumph!!!

I have altered suitcases.  I forgot about that.  Did any of you see White Oleander?  Didn't you just love those suitcase shrines they had?  I started trying to alter a trophy.  Like a bowling trophy or something. It has a beautiful angel on top. But it got the best of me and I had to scrap the whole project.

I have some old shoe lasts that I'd love to alter but the muse hasn't struck me yet with ideas for that.

Re: What's the Weirdest Object You've Ever Altered?

Does "going to" alter count?  I bought one of those "The Invisible Man" that some of the dollar stores are carrying.  I saw a web page of an artist who has done several, and they are way out!  His look slightly borg-like, because he used a lot of nuts, bolts and washers to alter his.  I'm still trying to come up with ideas how to alter mine.  Has anyone else done one of these yet?  I saw a class being offered by the artist (whose name I can't remember), but it was something like $300.00 for a two-day class.  Yikes!  I definitely don't have that kind of money to spend on an altered man class.

$300? Wowsers! I think you will do just fine on your own.

Are these those clear bodies where you can see the organs, etc?  That sounds so cool to alter! I can't wait to see what you do with yours, Bill. Please share when it's done!

And, of course "going to alter" counts!  lol

Bill that sounds like the work of Michael DeMeng; have you seen his stuff? Out of this world!

I have altered wallclocks, lunchboxes, birdhouses, mirrors, books, altoid tins, CDs, shoes, a music box, magnets, and more. Two things I WANT to alter...

I think the weirdest things I've ever altered were a clip board and my son's old Yu Gi Oh handbook. Oh also hardcover books minus the pages- I turn them into personal journals/calendars to give as gifts:)

A child's rubber lizard.  I painted it blue and purple and wrapped it with beaded wire.  Then I painted a Tyvek envelope and heat shrunk it, so it looks like rock.  The lizzard is glued to that.  Copied the idea from my Mom

The weirdest to date is a footstool.  But that's not all that weird, is it?  I painted it and the decoupaged it with paper and stickers.  It was early in my "altering" career so it wasn't very adventurous.  Stick out tongue

Re: What's the Weirdest Object You've Ever Altered?

What a fun thread! I have really only altered a book and it is not finished yet. I started it about four years ago and really just need to sit down and finish! I am just beginning to be more engaged in making art and I think altering is going to be something I'm really going to enjoy! Oh ya, I've alos alterd a candy jar, a band-aid tin, and I keep art journals and have just begun ATCs!

Re: What's the Weirdest Object You've Ever Altered?

I have altered two birdhouses. One wooden, the other metal bars. I have altered a denim jacket, several altered books, Ooooh- and my kitchen garbage can! It had sentimental value, but looked horrible, now it looks as special as it really is to me.  I have also altered several mirrors, including one old mirror, that I actually scraped the mirrored surface from the back of the pane of glass. Then collaged from the same reverse side. It came out looking really neat, with handmade papers and Klimt images underneath the pane of glass, mirrored parts hiding throughout.

Think that sums it all up. But in closing: I am currently ALTERING my LIFE! And I am loving what I am creating!

    Creative Wishes!
