After seeing your terrific responses to the Water Goddess image, Constance and Julie, I thought I'd pass on the few simple steps I took to complete the artwork. Once you’ve figured out how to navigate around the Photoshop world, you will be editing like a pro and doing all of the cool techniques in no time. Here's a few tips to get you started with your favorite image:
Background: Open File > New > Blank File to set your size. Mine was 6" x 6", 266 dpi;
Background Copy: Duplicate Layer 1 > Select Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient. Choose your custom colors for gradient: I selected the four colors from the 'Lake' Palette Play Challenge.
Select Gradient Tool from Tool Palette > Linear Gradient. I started from bottom left to top right to get the background;
Background Copy 1: Duplicate Layer 1 > Select Filter > Distort > Ocean Ripple;
Background Copy 2: Duplicate Layer 1 > Select Brush Tool from Tool Palette. The Brush I used was found under Pen Pressure > 91 Squid.
Size 493 px (depending on image), Mode Normal, Opacity 63% (depending on image). I used the light blue color (d2f6ff) to add the background brushwork;
Layer 1: Select Edit > Paste to insert your image;
Layer 2: Duplicate Layer 1 > Image > Resize > Scale. You can determine if your image should be enlarged or made smaller;
Layer 3: Duplicate Layer 2 > Select Brush Tool from Tool Palette. The type of Brush I used was found under Faux Finish > 90 Sea Sponge 2.
Size 90 px (depending on image), Mode Normal, Opacity 100% (depending on image). I selected the four colors from the 'Lake' Palette Play Challenge plus two others for hair and skin;
Layer 4: Select Text Tool to sign your work. Take a deep breath and congratulate yourself on the artwork you created.
Continually Save, Save, Save your work. When finished, save a copy as a jpg file. Let me know if you have questions about anything: Explore, Experiment, Enjoy!
