    Re: Autumn/Fall '08 Zine Swap

You know how they say you run through certain steps when going through grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance?  Well, I think I've gone through at least five steps while working on these zines:

denial:  "I swore I wasn't going to get involved in another art project with a deadline."
anger:  "I don't know how they manufactured this glue but it doesn't stick!"
bargaining:  "Did I really bargain for this?"
depression:  "OK, I'm finished the zines --- now what?"
acceptance:  "Wahoo!  I can hardly wait to have ten zines in my hot little hands! " (How about you?)

This is all in good fun, peoples.  Mine are on their merry way to our fine hostess, copper cat, come tomorrow.

    Re: Autumn/Fall '08 Zine Swap

i can relate to your 5 stages of grief, chameleon, even in your celebratory tone here. It's also actually one of my favorite Linda Pastan poems and I have shared it here:

    The Five Stage of Grief

    The night I lost you
    someone pointed me towards
    the Five Stages of Grief
    Go that way, they said,
it's easy, like learning to climb
    stairs after the amputation.
    And so I climbed.
    Denial was first.
    I sat down at breakfast
    carefully setting the table
for two. I passed you the toast---
    you sat there. I passed
    you the paper---you hid
    behind it.
    Anger seemed so familiar.
    I burned the toast, snatched
the paper and read the headlines myself.
    But they mentioned your departure,
and so I moved on to
    Bargaining. What could I exchange
    for you? The silence
    after storms? My typing fingers?
    Before I could decide, Depression
came puffing up, a poor relation
    its suitcase tied together
    with string. In the suitcase
    were bandages for the eyes
    and bottles sleep. I slid
all the way down the stairs
    feeling nothing.
    And all the time Hope
    flashed on and off
    in detective neon.
    Hope was a signpost pointing
    straight in the air.
Hope was my uncle's middle name,
    he died of it.
After a year I am still climbing, though my feet slip
    on your stone face.
    The treeline
    has long since disappeared;
    green is a color
    I have forgotten.
But now I see what I am climbing
    towards: Acceptance
    written in capital letters,
    a special headline:
    Acceptance
    its name is in lights.
    I struggle on,
    waving and shouting.
Below, my whole life spreads its surf,
all the landscapes I've ever known
    or dreamed of. Below
    a fish jumps: the pulse
    in your neck.
    Acceptance. I finally
    reach it.
    But something is wrong.
    Grief is a circular staircse.
    I have lost you.

Yes, Chameleon, I can definitely relate to your comparing the zine effort to the five stages of grief. I have loved every minute of it, though. I've just got to learn when to let go... I am not quite at the acceptance stage, but hope to be there in the next day or two. Big Smile

Whoa, Ramona, that poem packed a punch. How very emotional those stages of grief actually are - and then to be repeated again.  For some, it's repeated more than once.  I'd like to thank you for this poem - it's definitely a keeper.  That's what I truly love about Artella:  one minute we're conversing about zines, for instance, and the next we're talking about stages of grief!  It all fits and what a great place to share our thoughts, isn't it?

    Hi isabella and everyone,

I was hoping that it wasn't too much of a 'downer' to suggest that making the zines was anything close to actual grief so I was relieved that you and Ramona could relate.  I'm not quite at that acceptance stage, either, but soon now.  What makes it a tad easier is that you know ten other people are going to enjoy what you've put your Art Heart into.

I'm even worse at letting go when I write stories. It's almost like I am never satisfied and will edit and re-edit until Daddy reads what I have and says "Girl. It's perfect. Leave it alone."

Very emotional indeed, chameleon. and even as powerful as it is, when I do a grief poetry workshop, its the one poem that evokes the most awsome writing in the participants. It's truly amazing to see.

Hi Judy! Thanks for the heads up! Did you have a good birthday? I hope so. Cake

I'm not really looking into anyone's zines...my birthday present will be to see them all for the first time as you all do. I hope all of you participate again, though - what I do see looks very good. Be very, very proud of yourselves.

The only person I have not heard back from is harqn - busy as usual, I'm sure. Big Smile

Gentle hugs to all of you! ~copper cat

Be you - and no one else.

    Re: Autumn/Fall '08 Zine Swap

In the spring I participated in my first ever zine swap - with the word "zine" being something I heard in the ether of things and somehow pinning down the aspects of it was similar to pinning Jell-O. I frequently use chap stick (it's a New Mexican habit), and had a tube sitting on my desk when I worked on those first zines. I was also working with liquid glue in a large open "can" and stick glue which is in tube form. When using such things and watching TV simultaneously, make sure you note which is the tube of glue and which is the chap stick! Also, when drinking from an open glass and using an open form of liquid glue, make sure you know which of those is which. (There are blonde roots in here somewhere, methinks!) Surprise

Be you - and no one else.

    Hi Everyone,

    To all the Zine Swappers,

Copper Cat will be swapping and mailing out your zines soon.  After that, she will be temporarily unavailable due to prior commitments.  Please respect this and let Copper Cat rest.  When she is available for discussions and action again she will let us know.

Thanks everyone for your anticipated cooperation on Copper Cat's behalf.

    Blessings to all,

    Judy Bleu-Green

    Autumn/Fall '08 Zine Swap - Updated October 17th

    Hi guys!

No pouting, please. I have some good news for you...I am waiting on only one more set of zines, and then my happy hubby will package each of your goodies. This is exciting; they are all so beautiful, and I think you will be pleased.

I'll be on vacation M-W next week so if you have any questions you'll know why you haven't heard from me.

When the zines are on their way, I'll be sure and let you know asap! Thanks, everyone!

Trying to keep my paws out of the zine boxes....

Be you - and no one else.

No pouting way over yonder in Alberta, Canada only anticipation by the truckloads!  I have a pretty vivid imagination and it tells me that these zines are going to be visually astounding, in every sense of the word.  Are all the other zinesters as excited as I am?  Mr. Postman is likely to get a hug the day he places the zine package in my mailbox.
