The Challenge for Creativity Contest #23: Creativity Contest #23 celebrated the birth of Tony and Marney's son, Kai, on March 18. The baby's name, Kai, means "OCEAN" in Hawai'ian. The challenge was to create and submit an ocean-themed creation -- either writing or art.
The winners are listed below.

FIRST PLACE
"Ocean Blue"
Cheryl Stevenson The 3 pieces of this digital collage (not the shell, which is a digital scan) are scans of actual pieces made in my studio; the background piece of handmade paper I over-dyed with watercolor inks and embossed with gold paint; it is 8" x 10". The foreground ocean scene is a separate paper collage of handmade paper (light blue background) and torn and folded strips from a watercolor paper I painted with acrylics and gold leaf ( the water). The tiny seagulls are twisted pieces of handmade paper. This collage is 6" x 6". The smallest piece of the collage was made with handmade, hand-dyed papers, and tiny actual seashells and sand. All three of these pieces have been scanned into my computer. Using Corel's PSP I color corrected them to work well together, added drop shadows and a shell image I had on the computer.
I was thinking of the incredible blue shades of the waters around Hawaii when I put this together. What a great place to be born!
