    Hi Texasbarb!

Welcome to ArtellaLand and I hope you're enjoying exploring all of the wonderful places here.  I saw your posts in the Digital Pixal Place and I posted some information re: a little help.  If your in the market for tips and inspiration, this is definatley  a great place to be.  Artella is full of talented and creative artists of every variety and I find they are always willing to share.  I hope you love it as much as I do - I've been here for about 18 months and I can't imagine not having Artella and all my Artella friends in my life.  Hope to see you around the Cafe frequently.

    Hugs,   Julie

    Hi Julie,

It's hard keeping up with all the interesting posts in the Artella Cafe, isn't it?!  I've never immersed myself in one art medium for months or years at a time,  I just kind of 'float' from one kind of artmaking to another.  Wherever the artistic muse takes me, that's where I'll be for awhile until something grabs at me, gives me a shake, and says, "Time for something different, chameleon!"

So, when it comes to reading the posts in the Cafe, I find I do the same thing --- I 'float' from one post to another, enjoying one at a time, but sure enough there's alot I miss along the way!  Many thanks for your comments about my mom's scrapbook - that really means alot to me, Julie.

Hi Everyone! I too was suprised to find a scrapbooking thread on Artella. I have been involved with Artella for many years through swaps, buying the magazine, & just soaking up everyone's info sharing...lol. I loooove to scrapbook as well as make ATCs & other papercrafting things. I saw my first ATCs here at Artella back when I only scrapbooked. Just wanted to say hi & happy to see you all here. Also, love that layout! Darshell

Hi Darshell and happy to see you joining the scrapbooking crowd at Artella!  I visited our local Scrapbooker's Paradise a couple of days ago, wanting to purchase a certain item, and coming home with a bagful of delights!  Anyone relate to that?  There are so many products to choose from that easily an hour or more can go by while viewing all of them.

While I'm not scrapbooking at this moment in time, I went to purchase some papers for the upcoming Fall Zine that's coming up.  You would find this very funny if you knew how many papers I already have in my studio!  I thought I did pretty good, though, because I came home with some gorgeous papers for 25% off.  For anyone who hasn't been to a scrapbooking store, you are in for a treat.  Only thing is, be prepared to spend a wad of money especially when one sheet of 12 x 12 paper can cost anywhere from $.99 each up to $1.25 and packages of little buttons, metal tags, stickers, stamps, and stencils can run from $5.00 up to whatever you are willing to pay!

This little running of the mouth is not to discourage anyone from jumping into the scrapbooking craze but only to make you somewhat aware that once you're addicted to this wonderful craft, there's no turning back.  I also save the 'cutoffs' from paper that I don't use and these make wonderful little tags or additions to the page.  I would really love to see some more scrapbook pages posted by members to further inspire us in our own work.  How about it, scrapbookers?

I love Scrapbooking, too!  This was the first "art" I ever did in a group, with Creative Memories -- how fun is THAT!... and the only sales "party" I ever went to that really felt like a party!  My main processor and scanner went out at about the same time (as did the phones), so the scrapbook pages I have are in cyberspace, and the new scanner has yet to be connected -- my workspace looks like those pictures of the '40s, with big tangled cords strung around and shells of equipment hunkered in corners and boxes stacked precipitously to the ceiling.

But, boy, when I get organized, I can't wait to share! In the meantime, YOU GUYS have to keep 'em coming!

Re: Wave of the future - scrapbooking!

    Okay, here's a serious question:

When I was scanning some of my pages, I hated that my pages were 12 x 12, while my scanner window is 8-1/2 x 12.  Also, those wonderful metal reinforcements at the edges lifted the page up from the face of the scanner.

So, I'd end up copying in half-pages.

    Thoughts?

Re: Wave of the future - scrapbooking!

    Hi Constance!

I've been hugely disappointed with my scanner and it's quality and limitations for quite some time now.  I've just started something new to work around these problems.  I've been using my Point & Shoot Digital Camera to photograph whatever it is I would have scanned.  I then upload the photos and edit them to whatever size I want.  So far, I've been pretty happy with the results.  With three dimensional things like brads and clips and bows, etc., maybe you could just duplicate the image, crop the 3-D element down to it's individual element size and create a "png" document and then add the drop shadow and highlights, etc..  I think HP has a 3D scanner (so, I heard, anyway).  I have no idea how good it is or what it would cost and I'm not all that fond of HP anyway.  If I think of anything else, I'll give you a holler.

    Hi Constance!

I also forget to say that there are also scanners for larger papers.  I think some go up to 13 x 19 inches.   Once again, I understand that HP is reasonable but I haven't heard any rave reviews and they are definitely pricey.  And, a comment was posted on Consumer Reports.org to the effect that the really good ones (by oher manufacturers) are extremely costly.  So much so to be priced out of most people's price range.

Julie, this is SO helpful!!!   I really appreciate your taking the time to answer in detail.

When I read about TAKING A PICTURE WITH THE DIGITAL CAMERA... (duh!)... I literally said, out loud, "Duh!"  (me laughing at me)

    Hi Constance!

It is always my pleasure to share!  I had that same "Duh" moment recently.  I was only using my camera when everything else failed.  Then, over the last couple of days, I thought to myself, why do I keep going back to the scanner?  I finally realized that I get much better color AND resolutions with the camera.  I may give up scanners all together.  Those "Duh" moments need to come way more often (and sooner, rather than later!).  Hope you have fun!
