    Bookmark Bio - A Getting-to-Know-You Challenge

    I use my internet bookmarks continuously.  Find a cool site, something to remember,  an inspirational post, a great new product?  I throw it, literally, in my bookmarks.  Occasionally I clean my bookmarks - what a job.  Yesterday was a cleaning day.  As I organized my links into the proper folders, I had an epiphany.  My bookmarks are a pretty darn good map of who I am right now.

    Take a look at some of my bookmarks folders; once you've skimmed them, do you know me a little better?

    alternative healing
    art inspiration
    disability news
    green living
    goal setting
    humor and other laughing matters
    mindfulness and meditation
    nature - amazing stuff
    photo fun
    playtime and procrastination
    miniature shoe research
    spiritual
    stress busters
    writing and poetry

    Proof, we are what we bookmark!

    Does anyone else want to post a bookmark bio?

    Bo

    Re: Bookmark Bio - A Getting-to-Know-You Challenge

     I like your bookmarks!  Makes me realize my own are a combination of too big (music!) and too small (patrick - as in Saint Patrick).

    Here they are:

    Books and Such

    Celtic

    Entertainment

    Folklore

    Kids' Stories and Music

    Medusa

    Music

    Nature and Environment

    Patrick

    Spirit

    Stories & Storytelling

    Traditional Songs

    Weather

    Writing and Publishing

    I'd like to reorganize these - on your sterling example, Bo! - and started to do so today, only to fold within 5 minutes.  They're massive, engorged, interesting, and wild - definitely a combo of now and the past. Sometimes I'm tempted to scrap 'em all and just start over from today.  But on the other hand, it's fun to pull out drawers on this messy desk of life and see all the quill pens and hedgehogs and love letters mixed up together.

    Re: Bookmark Bio - A Getting-to-Know-You Challenge

    Stan,

    I could NEVER delete my bookmarks.  They're like family.  I do really try to keep on top of them because they are so easily lost, but it is really a hassle.  But only 5 minutes - Stan! - what shall I say.  On really long days, gloomy and everyone else with plans night and day, I sometimes go through my bookmarks, remembering why I saved, or wondering why I saved.

    Your bookmarks really give a glimpse of you. I thought it might be interesting.

    Re: Bookmark Bio - A Getting-to-Know-You Challenge

     I know - 5 minutes is a bit pathetic, but I'm being honest:  it really was only 5 minutes and then I was totally overwhelmed and bored at the same time.  Now, my actual bookshelves are another thing entirely. I have spent enchanted evenings alphabetizing the poetry bookcase or reorganizing Irish folklore just for the crack of it.

     Maybe some of the closet guru wisdom applies to these bookmarks?  If you don't know why it's there, toss it?  Or is it more of an archive of past interests, and since it adds no physical clutter, one simply hangs onto it?

     What do you do to keep on top of them?  Any tips for the bookmark-badgered?

    (It IS fascinating, though, to see what people have in there.  I see everything from stuff about oil spills to classical philology to astrologyzone to my favorite geeky weather guy).

    And hey, while we're chatting like this, do you want to do that point-of-view poem we talked about?  (take the p.o.v. of someone or something you can hardly understand much less approve and write a poem that makes some sense of it?)

    It's a plan.
    p.o.v.
    I can, I can.

    Do you want to start a new thread with the explanation,
    see who else may want in on the challenge?

    Didn't you give an example.
    That would be good to post, too.

    Good idea. I'll put that in the poetry/writing place.

    Also, we'll need another theme for next week's 10-minute poem!

    Re: Bookmark Bio - A Getting-to-Know-You Challenge

    This has been interesting to me; I've always used the "Favorites" button instead of the Bookmarks, but I guess it works the same way.  There are up to a dozen sites for me under each category.  Anybody have any clues about the distinctions between Favorites and Bookmarks?

     Here are mine, anyway:

     Animals

    Art

    Bloggers

    Books and Reading

    Charities

    Community and Clubs

    Creative and Cooking

    Decorating

    Family

    Fun Sites and e-Greetings

    Gifts

    Grief

    Inspiration and Encouragement

    Local Stuff

    Massage and Bodywork

    Music

    Photography

    References

    Re: Bookmark Bio - A Getting-to-Know-You Challenge

    Hi all!

    I have mine half-organized, but my problem is, I start with a generic file name and get more specific - so specific, at times, that it's best that I don't file them at all! Here's a partial list (AuntBo, we have a couple that overlap!):

    Disability & Tricare

    Health

    Mental Health

    Games

    Art Instructions

    Charities/Foundations

    Spiritual

    Photography

    Art Shopping

    Art, General

    eCards

    Investing

    Southwestern

    General Shopping

    ~~~~
    and some specifics:
    The Quotations Page
    Harrison Daily Times
    Albuquerque Journal
    Artella Land
    Artella Daily Muse
    I just recently deleted a bunch for either not visiting them or just allowing my fingers to do the walking instead! ;-)
    Gentle hugs,
    Jani'ce
    Be you - and no one else.
    Re: Bookmark Bio - A Getting-to-Know-You Challenge
    I don't know what my list says about me but I have only a few Favorites but lots of subfolders.  Maybe I'm somewhat organized when it comes to the Favorites but all hell breaks loose with the subfolders?  When I see something interesting while on the internet, I just cannot pretend it never happened - it simply must be saved!  Kind of like when I'm out and about and see some obscure object that could possibly, some day, maybe, positively, perhaps be used in an artwork.  It simply must be purchased.  Anybody know what I mean?!
    chameleon's favs
    • Art and Crafts (34 sub-folders starting with Altered Art; ending with Zines)
    • Blues (13 sub-folders with sub-folders like Blues International, Legendary Blues Cruise, etc.)Music
    • Dell (4 sub-folders)Geeked
    • Gardening (6 sub-folders)
    • Links (19 sub-folders with things like Bank, Dictionary, Google, etc.)
    • Media (17 sub-folders with radio stations, TV, newspapers, video)
