    Come and Write a FIB

The writing corner has been quiet lately.  Too quiet!

Does anyone know how to write a FIB?  Wanna find out?  Read on.  A FIB is:

a six-line poem in which the number of syllables per line follow the Fibonacci sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. The form was invented by Gregory K. Pincus, and popularized on his blog in April 2006

    http://gottabook.blogspot.com/2006/04/fib.html

So here is a new challenge for everyone.  Who can write a FIB and become one of Artella's grandest FIBbers?

I'll do the first one, but be forewarned - they are a bit tricky and this is my first attempt.

    white
    wild
    blizzard
    storm warning
    candles and matches
in great demand when lights cut off

    So who is next?  Hmm

    cheers,

    barbara

Okay, Barbara, I'll play. Reminiscent of myself last week:

    Paint

    Dribble

    On the Rug

    Gotta Get a Rag

it's too late now the paint is dry

That's great, Mary, perfect.   I spilled a glass of wine last week and I am really relating.  Here's one that you helped inspire.

    Wine

Re: Come and Write a FIB

Hi Barbara and Mary!  I'll try this FIB thing.  I'm working with the Kewpies from the "Here We Come A-Caroling" Studio Kit and I'm inspired to write about them.  I have a Kewpie collection and admire Rose O'Neill's work - she was one of America's leading commercial illustrators of her time.  Her work appeared in many publications such as Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, Harper's Bazaar and Cosmopolitan.  In the 1920's, her more serious works of art could be found in New York and Paris art galleries.  In addition to being a highly successful illustrator, she was a great philanthropist, poet and novelist.  Her Kewpies could be found battling injustice, promoting women's suffrage and other causes.  Every year there is a Kewpie festival in Branson, MO.  Pretty cool?  Anyway, here goes:

    Joy

    Wings

    Frolic

    Kewpish glee

    Spreading mischief 'round

    A hundred little chuckles sound.

That was fun.  Thanks a million.  Now I'm off and up to no good -- that means baking some chocolate chip cookies and probably eating more than I should before anybody else can get their hands on them.Big Smile

Lori, I love Kewpies. I used to have one when I was little. I bet my mom has it somewhere in her house. My Kewpie had a red stuffed body...soooo cute!

    Here's my next FIB:

    Small

    Mouse

    in house

    Cat went nuts

    I can't find the mouse

    I blame Billizetti for this.

Hey, it looks like this FIB thing is insiduous -- once you start you can't stop.

    Once

    You

    Begin

    Writing FIBS,

    You just cannot stop.

Soon you end up talking this way

Thanks for the photo offer, Mary.  My camera was so crazy cold, I put it in the car, the lens fogged, I found another shot and got out of the car, the condensation on my lens turned to ICE!  My camera needs its own winter coat.  And as for Christmas...

I love this!! I can really identify with it, substituting rug with clothes! It's so simple yet so powerful.

Re: Come and Write a FIB

The following is my task for today.  Creativity and writing has it's own peculiar challenges.  I couldn't decide if the word 'poem' was two-syllables or one, and I refused to look it up.  Technically, it's probably two, but usually pronounced as one - at least in Wisconsin.  So, 'one' it is!

    words

    poem

    I'm done

    to my editor

Will she like it or say re-write?

There is a second ending which goes like this...

"Will she throw it in the garbage?"

I'll go with the first ending.  I'm feeling positive today.

    Bo  Hmm

Re: Come and Write a FIB

I just have to share this lovely FIB that Constance Bates created for me for my birthday.  She went WAY overboard and made an 8-line FIB.  Of course the Fibonacci Sequence goes on and on -- 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 . . . -- each term the sum of the two before it.  Anyway, I think you'll like the FIB she made -- I LOVE IT!  She did the background, too!  Isn't it FAB!

    Aunt Bobby:

The FIB and background are super, super cool, which gives me an inspiration...

    Cool

    Grand

    Lovely

    Very sweet

    Wow, Happy Birthday

    From one Barbara to another.

    Bo

ps.  How long is the longest FIB we can write?  I'm not in on this one, though.  I can barely count to 8 on my fingers.  Those syl-la-bles are hard.
