Recently I came across a vintage book containing children’s games in the late 19th and early 20th century. I was fascinated to find that many were games I had played as a child, and some are still played today…although the names have been changed in some instances.

In transcribing the games, I began adjusting for gender bias, but then decided it would be more instructive for readers to see for themselves how the original games favored the male of the species.

In some cases I have changed the text where I thought the instructions needed clarification.

Some of the games are quite challenging—even for adults! Try them at your next party (Nostalgia Party perhaps?) or family gathering. This eBook would also be a useful tool for teachers. A nice change for the computer generation.
