Have you read "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"? I believe you would like it -- and it may temper your own story here.

I understand how you'd be humbled and speechless at winning before. Some of us don't know how to build on success; it simply embarrasses or confuses us. Please rethink excluding yourself from competition, though; make sure it isn't from some misplaced emotion. We LOVE to see you succeed!

He'd had a dozen best-sellers, yet was refused a home loan. The bank pointed out that just because he WAS a top-selling writer didn't mean he would be ever be one again. Wozzie, next time somebody asked what you're doing when it's obvious what you're doing, say "Nothing. Nothing at all," quickly cover up your writing, act like you're straightening a micro-earpiece, bring your arm up to your face and whisper pointedly into the inside of your wrist, nod your head, then fold your hands and smile sweetly.

Whileat my writing place the other day and working on my journaling and writing exercises, a friend and his friend stopped by to chat and asked what I was doing. I said quite painfully that I was a writer. And the friend's friend said "Ah, journaling. Okay." I have no idea if that was meant as "oh, journaling isn't real writing" but I took it that way and felt so silly. But he may not even have meant that. I am learning slowly that it matters if I believe, not anyone else. This is SO hard.

I guess that is a long way to simply say...I understand and YOU GO GIRL. :)
