Art Quilt

Which is better--technique or expression? I've been pondering this since I hung my first art quilt yesterday. Quilters may find many technical irregularities but, as an artist, I can say the expression is true. The journey was fun even though it was long. I started working on the small, fine needlepoint piece in 2003--yikes, that's a long time ago. All that counts is it's done but the vision changed as I worked on the quilt--the process was fun. Time has wings

Here it is over a week since our grandson Ryan Alexander (most handsome) was born and I haven't had a moment to relish his grandness.. I've squeezed in a little knitting time and a little time on my art quilt on aging. Maybe it's time to pick up my purse and go buy more yarn? Knitting slows down time for me.

Lanzhou's Crossing

Lanzhou, the bright star in our Siamese galaxy, crossed Rainbow Bridge on July 4th, leaving behind a huge path of sadness. In his three short years he touched so many friends and family with his shy, needy personality. Perhaps he knew his life with us was going to be short but rich and that he would need lots of help from us to have a quality life. His immune system was comprised from the beginning. The picture of him (in the brown leopard spotted collar) and his sister Zahari, so attached to him, is one of our favorites. Now there are only three wonderful Siamese in our home. Calliope. To experience the love, we must endure the loss.

Frogging

Join me on my patio, with a cup of Jasmine tea, and let's explore frogging (knitter's speak for ripit, ripit, ripit). According to my journal, I started this no-win trellis pattern jacket of black alpaca silk last May!!! Finally, it became quite clear to me in the middle of the night, when all original thoughts push themselves to the forefront, to frog it. The back was knitted to the sleeves and I could never make the pattern continue properly as I added stitches for the sleeves. A year in the making and a half an hour in the frogging.

Another cup of tea? A part of me feels relieved that it's not begging for my attention while I move between knitting socks, gloves, hats, purses and a sweater. Now you're probably seeing the symptoms of knitting addiction. Calliope

May Grey Became Grayer

The day slipped after I posted the greyhound painting. The bad news is that my 3-year old precious Siamese male cat Lanzhou had a small stroke. This was two days following dental extractions. Poor thing spent the night in an intensive care facility but we were able to transfer him back to our local hospital last night and he was purring all the way home as I was holding him. Here's a pic of 3 of the boys. He's the one with his eyes closed. The other two are named Tonghai and Mengku (together they form a Haiku) :). Calliope

Here it is another May Grey in SOCAL, reminding me of this painting I did of my greyhound several years ago. Yes, she really wore a raincoat. This is a good day for just knitting.
