Winter-Busters

I know it's been said and said and said, but I'll say it again.

Enough of this blasted winter, already!  92 inches of snow, and there is still March and part of April to watch for gathering snow clouds.  We have 20 inches of snow on the ground, and the snow is no longer pretty, but slushy, mushy, grey gunk.  Yuck!

So this weekend I went searching for some winter-busters, and I found a few.  Enough to change my outlook from crabby to much less crabby!

1) I gave myself a mini-pedicure.  That means I slapped some red polish on my toe-nails and that was about it.  But the red hidden under my wool socks and khaki boots at least made me smile.

2) On Friday night, I watched a couple of shows from the first season of Saturday Night Live, the ones I watched in real-time when I was in my early 20s.  That was hysterically funny.

3) Saturday morning my dear husband and I drove 80 miles to the nearest zoo.  It was 25˚ and warm enough to walk around for a couple of hours and take lots of photographs.  I didn't even get cold.  And I got some great photos of cold animals.

4) Then, since I had bribed my husband to come to the zoo, I had to payola.  So we went to a downtown micro-brewery for a tour and tasting.  BTW, I had Maple Root Beer which I know was much yummier than the beer everyone else was drinking.

5) I went to You Tube and picked out a few of my favorite oldie-but-goodie melodies, some with performers I had actually seen, and watched/listened to some old memories.  (Can you believe - American Pie, Summer Breeze, Margarita-ville, Summer in the City?)  Does any one else even know what those songs sound like???

6)  I have a yellow family room, and I staked my claim.  Yellow rooms seem to brighten everything. Everyone told me I shouldn't add all that yellow, but It's been a year since we went 'yellow' and I haven't regretted it for a moment - I just love it more and more.  Indoor sunshine!

7) I did the lavendar aroma-therapy trick. Mmmm.

8)  I am writing.  Lots of writing.  Some poetry - good or bad.  Doesn't matter today.  Writing is the important thing.

9) And I am ACTING happy.  Big smiles, big laughs.  'Cause if my body acts like it loves winter and can still chuckle, well, then my mind goes along with the idea.  Minds are funny like that!

10) Finally I may even take a Sunday afternoon nap. Dressed in a sweatshirt, jeans and long underwear. Under two quilts and a comforter. :-)

Yay!  Fake it 'til ya make it works for me (sometimes) too! (Just don't try it with the IRS).  I love a yellow kitchen... with sunflowers. Lavender is yummy too.  I am catching your mood!  I saw that wonderful peacock photo -- what a great shot!  And keep up the great writing...  ~Lori

Hi Bo,

Yes! I can relate to American Pie, Summer Breeze and Margarita-ville. The classics of our youth. Have you noticed how today's young people are drawn to the music of our day? My sons have Beatle posters on their bedroom walls and Jimi Hendrix in their iPods.

Ah yes...

"Give me the beat boys

and free my soul,

I wanna get lost

in your rock n roll...and drift awaaay"

Thanks for the winter-busters. Great ideas!
