A writer's life: chewing on words, adventures, and olives at noon on Tuesday

August 2008 - Posts

Hi!

Sorry for being so remiss. I'm here! I'm alive! And things are, well, changing. Again. I'll be back soon with more of what is happening in the world of Wozzie but for now I just wanted to stop in and say hi.

Oh and here's me at the annual Whiteaker Block Party:

I'm back to share the rest of my Oregon Country Fair goodness!

I wonder how long it took to learn how to walk on these?

We drove so we had to park way out yonder. Next year we might be adventurous and take the mode of transport that gets VIP parking right in front of the gates:

More costumes!

So much music! So many stages. We danced awhile here at the main one:

Say soy cheeeese!

It was REALLY HOT the day of the fair but they had little stations like these throughout so we could cool down:

And the FOOD! Oh the yummy food. I really didn't expect to see so many vegan options! Check out the fun menu at one of the booths. Their combo was called a "Hippie Meal". HA!

Sorry, I didn't get pictures of the actual food I scarfed down. I was too busy eating. A girl has priorities ya know! I had fries, a corn dog (it has been SO LONG!), some sushi, a donut sample, coconut bliss "ice cream", a rice krispy treat (again, it had been SO LONG!), and who knows how many teas and lemonades. I need to get a job at this place just so I can get this apron:

And although we didn't take advantage of it, there was even a nice, quiet place for napping:

And there you have it! A fair like no other fairs. I can't wait for next year!!

I attended the Oregon Country Fair almost a month ago and am so glad I didn't miss out on this one. Sure people kept talking about the fair and how much fun it was but I was thinking if I'd seen one fair I'd seen them all, right? I mean, aren't all fairs just lame rides and a lot of food I can't eat anyway? Well, thank my lucky stars that this was not that kind of fair! It's hard to even put into words how amazing this event is. Even the pictures are not going to do it justice. Everyone was friendly. Everyone was environmentally aware (when is the last time you went to a huge public event and didn't see a shred of litter while there are food stands a plenty?). Everyone was just so HAPPY.

Here's to caring about the Earth:

And here was a one of the maps placed all over the fairgrounds. It was HUGE! We were there for over 4 hours and still didn't put a dent in everything we could have seen or experienced. Now I see why people get the three day pass:

There were several stages all over and then there would be random groups just set up to entertain!

This was a gathering place for so many people. Artists, poets, dancers...

It was crowded! Definitely a lot of people enjoying the festivities. Many people came in costume. There were fairy wings, painted breasts, elaborate dresses and more. Check out the guy with horns:

And even amidst the masses I ran into my former Eugene roomate, Niki. She's cute, eh?

So many cool things to look at and buy. I'm sure my girls would have loved me to store them in one of these:

There is so much more to share but for today I'll end with one for all the Harry Potter fans. This reminded me of the one and only Wizard's Chess!

Check!
