The Bubble Gum Inspiration

A writer's life: chewing on words, adventures, and olives at noon on Tuesday

Pass the Pen, Please

I’m alive. Really I am. I’d mentioned before that sometimes life happens, and well, it happened in a big way over the last month. I’ve moved to a new house. I’ve put in my notice at my day job. I’ve done some kick ass work for my internship. I’ve gotten a lot of organizing done at my shoppe in preparation for her one-year anniversary event. I’ve just been living life and that’s important.

What is also extremely important is that I write. I am ashamed to admit that I haven’t so much as even opened a journal in the last month. Marination? Nope, nothing has even been in the pot so no need to add water and turn up the heat.

I have been grappling with what type of writing I am to be doing. I know that focusing on freelance writing is where I’d bring in some income and so that makes sense to go down that dusty road. But it’s fiction that gets my pen moving and makes me happy to entertain the ideas that flow through it. But unless I come up with the next Harry Potter or Bridget Jones, it is most unlikely that I will make a living of any substantial sort as a fiction writer. Should that matter? Should that stop me from writing anyway? No! However, at this point in time, it has stopped me. Thank goodness NaNoWriMo is upon us and I’ll have a “reason” to sit down and indulge myself in the journey known as the novel.

I’m here. I’m alive. I just have to find my pen.
