Some time ago, I wrote a little "ditty" to be sung to my children:
I love you, I bless you, I'm proud of you, my child. I bless you, I love you, in Jesus' name.
So in this love letter I will sing that song to each child in turn. I am SO proud of the adults they have become, and there are many things about each one that I could choose. But in this love letter, I will focus on one particular thing that I am proud of.
A Love Letter to Robin, my first child and my only daughter:
Dearest Robin: I am proud of the way you faithfully and joyfully do the things you consider your "duty"! I think of the day you spend with me each week; the day you spend with your mother-in-law; the faithfulness with which you always try to be home before your husband, because he likes it that way; the time you spend with your aunts and others that need you. Those are only a few examples, but they will serve. I love you, I bless you, I'm proud of you, my Robin. I bless you, I love you, in Jesus' name.
A love letter to Fred, my second child, oldest son:
Dearest Fred: I am proud of the way you use your native tongue! You are so quick-witted and so golden-tongued! Puns roll out of your mouth with ease; similes just come natural to you; double-entendres are second nature. And your vocabulary is immense! And you use it to express yourself eloquently and elegantly. I love you, I bless you, I'm proud of you, my Fred. I bless you, I love you, in Jesus' name.
A love letter to Richard, my middlest boy:
Dearest Richard: I am proud of you because you always obey the Biblical injunction "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might." Whether it's working for Artella, teaching music to grade-school children, serving as host to guests at a motel, cheering for your sons as they march, performing the wedding for your son and his bride, loving your grandson -- when you do something, you do it with all your heart. I love you, I bless you, I'm proud of you, my Richard. I bless you, I love you, in Jesus' name.
A love letter to Willie, my baby:
Dearest Willie: I am proud of your unwavering devotion to your God, your church, and your family. It shows in everything you do, but especially in the way you are training up your wonderful daughters in the Way they should go, and in the way you honor and cherish your wife. I love you, I bless you, I'm proud of you, my Willie. I bless you, I love you, in Jesus' name.
